CAPE COD, Mass. — A family down the Cape got quite the surprise last week when they accidentally brought home an Eastern Coyote pup, thinking it was a lost puppy.
The pup was found wandering and distressed by the side of a busy road. Concerned for the animal’s well being, a local family scooped him up and brought him home.
They quickly realized their mistake and called the Cape Wildlife Center for help.
The coyote pup tested negative for rabies and is now recovering comfortably in an isolation ward with Cape Wildlife staff. He will soon be introduced to a foster sibling from the Wildlife Clinic of Rhode Island.
Both pups will receive vaccinations and will be raised together in a large outdoor area so they will be able to grow and learn natural behaviors.
They will be released into the wild later this year when they are ready.
