Charred triple-decker dismantled following fast-moving fire in Lawrence

LAWRENCE, Mass — A triple-decker in Lawrence was reduced to rubble just hours after it was ravaged by flames.

The flames started around 1 p.m. on the top floor of the multi-family home at 29 Juniper Street.

Fire officials said the nine people who live at the home had been accounted for but lost everything.

Strong gusty winds helped to quickly propel the flames through the home.

The entire top floor was wiped out in a matter of an hour, and the top porch came crashing down as firefighters doused it with water.

Authorities were concerned that the entire home could come crashing down after the flames were put out.

An excavator was brought in to tear down the property shortly before 6 p.m.

“To see it just drop in a matter of a day. This house was here this morning and is now gone,” said neighbor Minerva Santos. “You can’t replace memories of these kids growing up in that house.”

Neighbors stood alongside displaced residents who lost everything during the emotional demolition process.

“It’s tragic, and they’re all wonderful people who live in the house,” said neighbor Susan Woodman. “It’s heartbreaking.”

Firefighters prevented the flames from spreading to two neighboring homes that were damaged by intense heat.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
