BOSTON — Some terrifying moments during the busy afternoon commute in Dorchester after a shooting just before 5 p.m. on Columbia Road left one man dead.
“On arrival, they located an adult male in a vehicle suffering from a gunshot wound in the area of 243 Columbia Road,” said Superintendent Felipe Colon of the Boston Police Department.
Sources tell Boston 25 the victim was an adult male in his 20s and was shot in his car. Monday night the Boston Police Commissioner made a plea to the public for help.
“Columbia Road is a very busy Street and it’s very close to the Frederick Middle School and so we need the public’s help certainly,” said Commission Michael Cox.
The Frederick Middle School is just across the street. Students in after-school programs were forced into safe mode.
Boston 25 obtained a letter sent home to parents which says in part:
“This afternoon, our school was placed into “Safe Mode” for approximately 20 minutes due to police activity near our school campus. This action was taken out of an abundance of caution…
THEY WENT ON TO SAY:
The Frederick Middle School’s “Safe Mode” was lifted after it was determined that normal after-school activities could resume, and all students were moved to another location where they could be received by their families.”
The shooter fled the scene and is on the run. Police again urging any witnesses to help find who killed this man.
“We do need the public’s help. This is a daylight shooting. It happened in the middle of the day. A lot of people are out here in general so we’re asking for the public to help us with this,” said Commissioner Cox.
Police also reminded the public that the Boston Neighborhood Trauma Team is available if anyone needs help or support after the deadly shooting.
No suspects have been identified at this time.
