It’s the final holiday season in the White House for President Biden and the First Lady and Dr. Jill Biden invited Boston 25′s Kerry Kavanaugh back to Washington for a final interview in the White House.
They discussed her legacy and the president’s controversial pardoning of her son, Hunter.
Kerry takes us inside the White House tonight with the interview you will only see on Boston 25.
Kavanaugh: Is it extra sentimental? I was here for your first holiday season in Norway. No one else was here because of Covid. T And now it’s your last. How are you feeling about that?
Biden: You know, I’m feeling a sense of peace and actually joy that I get to continue on yet another journey in my life. And so I’m looking forward to it.
On her legacy…
Biden: “I hope when mine is written, I hope it includes I don’t know, It has to include education since I’ve been a teacher for so long. And I hope it includes helping women and women’s health. You know, and I’ve been the first First Lady to have a job and collect a paycheck from, you know, from teaching. And so I hope those are little bits and pieces of it. And of course, we’re a military family...”
Kavanaugh: “Four years as first lady. Was there anything that just totally surprised you that you weren’t expecting?”
Biden: “Maybe the amount of attention the first lady gets and, you know, in all aspects of her life? So I guess maybe that was a little bit of a surprise to me.”
Kavanaugh: “Do you have any thoughts about how the four years came to an end, how the candidacy came to an end?”
Biden: “No. I’m telling you, I’m totally at peace with how things ended. Maybe the process wasn’t what I would have quite wanted, but I’m totally at peace.”

A season of peace and light is the theme of this year’s holiday White House.
Each room was meticulously decked out by 300 volunteers who created 83 beautiful trees.

On her husband’s presidency...
Boston 25 asked the First Lady as she reflected on the last four years of the Biden presidency if there’s something she wishes resonated more with the American people.
Biden: “I think some of the accomplishments of the white house, some of the things that Joe did, you know, opening our schools, ending the pandemic, you know, the infrastructure, I mean, just so many things that he accomplished. I mean, we have a great economy now. And so I wish we had gotten to maybe amplify those a little bit more than it was so that people can look back and say, yeah, when Biden was president, he did this.”
Kavanaugh: “Of all these accomplishments all these years, are you afraid anything might be overshadowed by the pardoning of your son? "
Biden: No, I actually don’t. I think that, you know, Joe, I mean, Kerry, Joe really wrestled with this decision and, you know, circumstances changed. Joe talked to a lot of legal experts, and I think this was the right course of action. And, of course, Hunter is my son. And of course, I support what Joe did.”
On a message to the American people moving forward...
Boston 25 then asked the First Lady if she had one more message for the American people. She told Kerry to look around. It’s all right here.
Biden: My final message is peace and light. And I hope you find that within yourselves. And I hope you find that for your family. So I’d like to say to your viewers, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays. May you find joy in the holiday season.
The First Lady says she’s not exactly sure what comes next and that’s okay.
She does want to keep talking about her women’s health initiative — something the Biden administration has invested a billion dollars in this year.
