WELLESLEY, Mass. — Thieves reportedly targeted Jaylen Brown’s mother’s home in Wellesley while the Boston Celtics were on a recent road trip.
Wellesley police aren’t releasing a report on the incident due to an ongoing investigation, but authorities confirmed that officers were called to a home on Kenilworth Road in the Norfolk County town on Sunday for a possible breaking and entering.
Responding officers found a broken window at the home, although nothing was taken and no one was hurt.
A source told Boston 25′s Sports Director Butch Stearns that the break-in happened on the same street that Brown’s mother is believed to live on.
When Boston 25 News asked the Celtics to confirm that, the defending NBA champions said in a statement, “The safety of Celtics players, families, and staff is of the utmost importance to us. We are aware of the incident and are working with authorities.”
In past months, there have been several break-ins at the homes of high-profile athletes including Kanas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, and Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Borrow, among others.
The FBI is reportedly investigating those incidents and working on the theory that it could be an organized crime ring targeting athletes when they’re known to be playing games in other cities.
The Celtics were playing in Washington D.C. against the Wizards when the Wellesley break-in happened.
There was also a recent break-in at a Newton home where an assistant coach on the Celtics staff lives, according to the Boston Globe. An NBA championship ring was reportedly stolen in that incident.
