ABINGTON, Mass. — The death of a man found in a South Shore backyard Friday evening is being investigated as a homicide, sources tell Boston 25 News.

Officers responding to 563 Plymouth Street in Abington for a wellness check just before 7:30 p.m. found a 43-year-old man dead in his backyard, according to the Plymouth District Attorney’s Office.

Multiple law enforcement sources have confirmed that this is an active homicide investigation.

The victim’s name hasn’t been released.

While a preliminary investigation indicates the man’s death “does not appear to be a random act of violence,” police are still asking the public for help with the investigation, according to the DA’s office.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to contact Massachusetts State Police at 508-894-2584.

State troopers assigned to the DA’s office are assisting Abington police with the investigation.
