BOSTON — A lot of people flying out of Logan Airport this weekend had to reschedule their flights after Friday’s snowstorm.
“I’m very upset, I hope I can go today,” said Rosa Dasilva.
The Dasilvas are trying to get to Colorado to see their children and grandchildren for Christmas, but their flight was canceled on Saturday.
“Jet Blue stated there was no pilots, because of the storm, the snowstorm, but mind you the ground was clear,” said Dalton Dasilva.
“And it’s not just me, it was a lot of people almost 3 hours in the line for everyone and some people not going to get there before Christmas, they offered me to go there on Christmas Eve,” said Rosa Dasilva.
So they decided to book a whole new flight to get out on Sunday.
“Now we ended up purchasing another ticket for today and we paid $2,700, almost $2,800 rather just one way so I can get together with my sons,” said Dalton Dasilva.
Massport says Friday’s storm brought more snow than expected, causing lots of delays and cancellations.
A spokesperson says on Friday, 188 flights were canceled at Logan Airport on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
Maddi Gonte was on one of those delayed flights to Michigan.
“It kept getting delayed and then we boarded around 11:30 PM or 12 AM and then it stayed at the gate for another hour and a half,” said Gonte.
“They needed to de-ice for an hour and a half, and you would hope that somehow they could do that beforehand or coordinate better, but weather’s weather, it’s those mechanical things I think that’s frustrating for people,” said Michael Pogoda.
Flights were running more smoothly on Sunday while the airport was still packed.
Many travelers hoping to just make it to their destination before Christmas.
“I feel like it’s a stereotype of the holidays that this is kind of what happens,” said Pogoda.
MASSPORT says anyone traveling this holiday season should be patient and always check with your airlines for any delays or changes to your flight.
