SALEM, Mass. — A husband and wife were stabbed by a knife-wielding robbery suspect in Salem, Massachusetts, on Friday night, authorities said.
Officers responding to a report of an attempted robbery in the area of Dow and Park streets just after 8:45 p.m. learned a 25-year-old Salem man unsuccessfully attempted to rob a couple at knifepoint, according to the Salem Police Department.
The suspect, whose name wasn’t released, then allegedly ran a short distance, confronted another person, and demanded money at knifepoint. A struggle then ensued with family members who came to the victim’s aid.
During that struggle, the husband and wife suffered superficial wounds, according to police.
Police said the suspect was arrested on charges including two counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, attempted to commit a robbery, armed assault to rob, assault with a dangerous weapon, and violation of the city’s knife ordinance.
It wasn’t immediately clear when the suspect would be called to court.
An investigation is ongoing.
