HAVERHILL, N.H. — Hopes of a possible break in the 2004 disappearance of Maura Murray have been dealt another setback.
Her family say human bone fragments recently discovered on Loon Mountain in Lincoln, N.H. are not those of missing UMass Amherst nursing student.
“My heart is heavy upon learning that these remains do not belong to my little sister,” said Julie Murray. “I urge the N.H.S.P. to work tirelessly until the remains can be identified, so that peace may be given to their loved ones. My family will continue to search for Maura and will leave no stone unturned until we bring her home and hold accountable those who are responsible for her disappearance.”
Radiocarbon testing indicates the bones date back to between 1774 and 1942 with a 95.4% probability, according to the family.
Boston 25 News reporter Bob Ward spoke with Julie Murray in September about the discovery of the remains.
Maura Murray disappeared on February 9, 2004 after a single car crash on Route 112 in Haverhill, New Hampshire.
Maura refused help from a neighbor and then disappeared.
Since Maura’s disappearance, her fate has been the subject of countless theories in books, podcasts, and TV shows.
