WEYMOUTH, Mass. — Neighbors in Weymouth are anxious for answers after a deadly hit and run accident that claimed the life of a familiar face in the community.
The victim has been identified as 61-year-old Xuan Vo.
Vo was just several blocks from her Union Street home Saturday morning around 2:45 a.m. when she was struck and left for dead.
Police said an officer on patrol found Vo lying on the sidewalk on Pleasant Street near Ralph Talbot Street.
The officer attempted to save her life, but it was too late.
“She’s always out late walking. She’s very sweet, very kind. She says hello to me and my family. She offers to babysit my kids. She’s a very nice, loving woman,” said neighbor Anita Her.
Neighbors told Boston 25 News that cars routinely speed through the area, posing a danger to those who walk along the busy stretch of road.
“This is very dangerous. I’m out with my children walking,” added Her. “How could they live with themselves after something like that?”
Police said investigators found a piece of the vehicle that hit Vo at the scene. On Monday morning, police announced they are searching for a 2011-2014 Volkswagen Jetta GLI with potential damage to the right quarter panel area and windshield.
Authorities are also analyzing surveillance video from a neighbor’s home in an effort to identify the driver.
Anyone with information is asked to call Weymouth Police at 781-335-1212.
