BOSTON — Starting Monday, extra security will be on hand outside the Henderson Inclusion School in Dorchester where the principal was punched in the head and knocked unconscious by a student. This is the first time students have returned to the classroom since that incident last week.
As they return, the school instituted several changes to ensure student safety. During arrival and dismissal times, Henderson school teachers and staff will be outside to greet students when they are getting on or off the bus and will help move them in and out of the building. Safety staff from Boston Public Schools will be available as well as police officers from the Boston Police Department will be visible in the area. The school is working on better communication with families that gets information out in a timely manner. Additional resources and training are being given to the nursing staff.

To help welcome back students, over the weekend the front steps and sidewalks of the Henderson School were decorated with chalk. It was a small way to give the kids some encouragement as they return following last week’s violent incident where their principal was attacked and knocked unconscious by a 16-year-old student, according to police.
Monday, grades 2-6 will return and then tomorrow grades 7-12 will return. While the principal continues to recover at home, the secondary school superintendent will report to Henderson every day and work with school leadership.
