NEWTON, Mass. — There was a heavy police presence in a neighborhood in Newton as the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted a search at a home in the city on Wednesday afternoon.
At least two white tents could be seen outside of a house on Fairfield Street as FBI agents removed items from the home.
An FBI spokesperson in a statement agents were performing “court-authorized law enforcement activity at that address” but declined to comment further.
Investigators were on the scene for several hours and rocked a typically quiet neighborhood.
“This is sort of a quiet side street so unless you’re actually walking by here which is what we’re doing on our daily walk you really wouldn’t know what was going on,” said neighbor Roger Lehrberg.
Some of the investigators at the home were dressed in white Tyvek suits seen bringing out bags and boxes of evidence.
“It’s very unusual for the neighborhood yes it is but again it doesn’t seem like it’s a violent crime so I don’t think it adversely impacts the people that live here,” said Lehrberg.
Two people were later seen running out the front of their home and into their car before taking off down the street.
Neighbors tell Boston 25 that the family who lives there haven’t been there too long. State records show the house was sold for just over $1 million in September 2020.
The agency’s spokesperson declined to share additional details on the nature of the unfolding matter.
