BOSTON — If you haven’t seen them, maybe you have heard them.
Several military helicopters and a huge plane have been flying over the City of Boston lately and a lot of people have been asking why.
On Friday, a hulking C-130 was spotted several miles off the coast of Nahant by Sky 25.
Moments later, a boat was dropped from that plane, followed by service members who dove out the back of the C-130. The boat and service members landed safely in the waters off Nahant and were met by crews, including the U.S. Coast Guard.
On Thursday, Sky 25, which is the helicopter used by Boston 25 News, caught a similar military exercise over the Charles River as Sky 25 was getting video of rowers preparing for the Head of the Charles regatta this weekend.

Several Black Hawk helicopters were circling the area, with crew members sitting with their legs outside the open doors of their helicopters.
We reached out to the City Of Boston for some information.
The mayor’s office tells Boston 25 News that the Department of Defense is “conducting training involving aviation assets in the Boston area, from October 18 - 29.”
The mayor’s office went on to say “...citizens in the local area may experience higher-than-normal levels of aircraft noise during this time. This training has been fully coordinated with local government officials.”
We were also told extensive safety precautions are in place to protect the service members and local citizens, “to limit inconvenience to the communities.”
Boston 25 News also reached out to the the state. We were told this training does not include the Massachusetts Air National Guard.
