BOSTON — Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron has had a Hall-of-Fame career centering Boston’s top line for the better part of two decades and on Saturday, ‘Bergy’ was also the center of attention.
Bergeron was honored in a pregame ceremony prior to Boston’s 4-2 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets for recently registering his 1,000th career point - only the 95th player in league history to reach that mark.
To honor the legendary milestone, Governor Charlie Baker presented Bergeron with an official proclamation declaring December 17, 2022 “Patrice Bergeron Day” throughout Massachusetts.

Bergeron also wished the outgoing governor good luck as he prepares for his new role as President of the NCAA in 2023.
“Thank you for everything!” Bergeron wrote. “Congrats on your new role with the NCAA. Good Luck!”
Bergeron was also gifted a gold stick, a $37,000 check made out to his charity “Patrice’s Pals”, and a crystal plaque from fellow 1,000-point club member Johnny Bucyk.
A video on the TD Garden jumbotron recapped Bergeron’s journey to 1,000 points- from his first goal as an 18-year-old in 2003, to the game-winning assist in the 2010 Winter Classic, to his quick pass on a Brad Marchand goal that put him at 1,000 points last month.

“If there’s a better all-around player in the league, I don’t know who it is,” said Phil Esposito. " I’ve watched this guy for years. I love the way he plays. He’s so responsible. He just plays his game. For me, he’s a first-time election in the Hall of Fame.”
