BRAINTREE, Mass. — Procrastinating shoppers flooded Boston-area malls to snag their last-minute gifts two days away from Christmas.
Thousands jammed the South Shore Plaza in Braintree. The mall extended their hours to 9 pm Monday, expecting one of their busiest days of the year.
Parking spots outside were scarce on Monday, and some shops inside had lines of shoppers wrapped outside them.
“Overwhelming, overstimulating, and the lines are really long too,” said Veronica Williams of Brockton. “When we were coming, I was like, ‘What’s going on?’”
Danny and Katie Sullivan of Milton were two last-minute shoppers who battled heavy holiday traffic to Braintree Monday.
“Everyone’s running around like a chicken with their heads cut off,” said Danny.
Katie was finishing her holiday shopping Monday, explaining, “There are always ones that sneak up on you though.”
Shoppers from all around the greater Boston area told Boston 25 they suffered extreme delays due to heavy traffic on Monday.
Some communities are expected to see snow showers on Christmas Eve morning – adding an extra challenge for last-minute shoppers.
One shopper added, “That would probably taint some people’s plans.”
The South Shore Plaza and other shopping centers are shutting down early Tuesday night ahead of the holiday.
