GLOUSTER, Mass. — The Gloucester Fire department responded to and extinguished a three-alarm house fire that displaced eight individuals early Saturday morning, officials said.
Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 616 Western Ave just before 2 a.m. and when crews arrived at the scene fire was already showing in the second and third-story windows of the three-family home that officials say was built in 1920.
Residents had already evacuated the building when crews arrived.
A third alarm was struck after an unsuccessful attempt to combat the blaze from inside the residence and firefighters shifted the fight to the exterior of the building, officials said.
The fire was under control by about 4 a.m., fire officials said.
There are no reported injuries. At least eight residents were displaced and American Red Cross is assisting those families.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation
