WAKEFIELD, N.H. — Four people found dead in a New Hampshire home on Christmas Day died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning, the state fire marshal said Wednesday.
At 4:21 p.m. Wednesday, Wakefield Police responded to 2962 Province Lake Road in Wakefield for a welfare check, New Hampshire State Fire Marshal Sean Toomey said in a statement shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday.
When officers arrived, they found multiple people dead in the home. Investigators from the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office were asked to respond to the scene to assist.
The names of the four victims, all adults, are being withheld pending next of kin notification.
An investigation remains active and ongoing. At this time, investigators believe the victims died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Autopsies are scheduled to be performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner on Thursday to determine the cause and manner of death.

The New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of Wakefield Fire Rescue, the Wakefield Police Department, and the New Hampshire State Police.
Toomey on Wednesday reminded the public of the importance of having working carbon monoxide alarms in their homes.
In the event of an alarm activation, residents should immediately exit their homes and call 911.

Wakefield is a small town in the Lakes Region, east of Lake Winnipesaukee. The town’s population was 5,201 at the 2020 census.
