Five-car crash on Sagamore Bridge causes injuries, backs up traffic for miles

BOURNE, Mass — A crash involving five vehicles on the Sagamore Bridge left some with injuries and backed up traffic to Cape Cod for miles Saturday.

Bourne Police first notified the public all lanes of the Cape’s main gateway were closed around 5:00 p.m. as first responders worked to extract those still trapped in their vehicles.

Around half an hour later, drivers were able to creep their way across the bridge using just the right lanes, according to MassDot.

By 6 p.m., both lanes of traffic were reopened, according to Bourne Police.

A Massachusetts State Police spokesperson told Boston 25 News traffic to the Cape was backed up three miles in both directions from the site of the crash.

Video from the scene shows a white SUV resting on top of a crunched white sedan. A black Honda sustained massive damage to the driver’s side.

At least one woman was seen being wheeled into an ambulance.

Boston 25 is working to learn the extent of the injuries sustained in the crash.
