RANDOLPH, Mass. — Firefighters worked to put out a fire on Highland Glen Drive in Randolph, Tuesday night.
A person at the home called the fire department shortly after 7 p.m., reporting that the smoke detectors in the house were going off and smoke was coming from the basement, according to Randolph Chief of Operations Paul Frew.
The residents of the house evacuated the house on their own, according to Frew.
When fire crews arrived on scene, they witnessed smoke coming from the front door of the house, Randolph fire officials say.
Firefighters located the source of the fire, which appeared to be coming from the home’s furnace. Crews were able to confine the fire to that area and quickly knock it down. The furnace sustained “minimal damage,” according to fire officials.
The basement of the house suffered both water and smoke damage. The first floor of the house also suffered smoke damage, officials say. The house is also without heat at this time as a result of the fire damage to the furnace, officials continued.
The Red Cross was called in to assist three people who have been displaced as a result of the fire.
No one was injured, officials say.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
