NANTUCKET, Mass. — A blaze broke out in a parking lot near the Nantucket Memorial Airport Monday morning, torching multiple cars.

Airport officials say staff saw the fire break out in a rental car overflow area on the airport’s closed-circuit television system just before 5:30 a.m.

Fire and police apparatus responded to contain the fire. Video shows the aftermath of the scene, with the front of multiple cars completely charred.

The airport says several cars were damaged and they’re working with rental car agencies and agency partners to ensure the safety of the scene.

The Nantucket Memorial Airport remains open and aeronautical operations were not affected.
