FBI searching for 3 stolen New England Patriots Super Bowl rings

BOSTON — The FBI put the word out Friday that three New England Patriot Super Bowl rings were stolen. They don’t say when or from whom they were stolen.

They are rings from the early years of the dynasty in 2001, 2003 and 2004. They were stolen and are now listed in the National Stolen Art File’s Violent Crimes section.

Local sports memorabilia expert Phil Castinetti says they are expensive rings.

“They’re worth so much money. People know that. They do whatever they can to make money,” he said.

Castinetti owns Sports World in Saugus. He says they’re worth between $50,000 and $75,000 each. “There’s a lot diamonds, it’s nice jewelry,” he said.

Castinetti is very well known in the sports memorabilia business and has experience helping recover stolen championship rings. “I did help Terry Francona and very luckily he got his rings back,” he said.

Back in November 2019, Castinetti got a phone call from a sports memorabilia dealer in Arizona saying he had Terry Francona’s World Series rings. Castinetti didn’t believe him. So, he reached out to Francona who said his rings were missing.

“Luckily, I knew Terry and called him and got him his rings back,” Castinetti said.

The FBI shared a clue to who they belong to. Each ring is engraved  with the name “Gill.”

Castinetti believes now that the word is out they’re missing they’ll turn up sooner or later.

“Eventually, it may not be this week, this month, next year but eventually they’ll get back,” he said.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
