Woman escapes with dog before flames consume Beverly home

BEVERLY, Mass. — Fire officials say a woman managed to escape safely with her dog before flames consumed her home in Beverly.

It happened Tuesday afternoon on Swan Street near Cabot Street.

Sky25 was overhead as the home was engulfed in flames and smoke billowed into the air.

Firefighters extinguished the flames over the course of several hours without anyone being hurt.

“There was a strong wind today from back to front which prevented us from getting into a strong interior attack,” said Beverly Fire Chief Peter O’Connor.

The only person who resides at the home is the woman who fled with her pet.

Neighbors told Boston 25 News they were alarmed by what sounded like an explosion while firefighters were battling the flames.

“They told us to go inside because there was going to be an explosion. There definitely was, and it was scary. It shook the whole entire house,” said neighbor Xiomara Valerio.

It’s still unclear what caused that explosion.

The cause of the three alarm fire remains under investigation.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
