BOSTON — A local chef is gaining fans across America after he defeated a top Food Network host in a recent cooking competition.

Chef Lambert Givens, of Hunter’s Kitchen and Bar on Dorchester Street in Boston, emerged victorious on an episode of “Beat Bobby Flay.”

Givens put together a gumbo that Flay could not match.

“Gumbo is not the easiest dish to make. You’re combining a lot of flavors, and you need to make sure everything is balanced,” Givens said.

Givens added that he’s beyond thrilled to take home the win for his hometown.

“It’s a dream come true to get to bring my favorite recipe to a national audience,” Givens said. “Not many people can say they Beat Bobby Flay, but I’m happy to take the win home for Hunters.”

Hunter’s Kitchen and Bar is well known for its shrimp and grits, chicken and dumplings, brisket, and fried chicken.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
