BOSTON — Suffolk D.A. Kevin Hayden announced on Friday that a Dorchester man, convicted in a 2022 fatal stabbing, has been sentenced to over a decade in prison.
Raymond Castro, 45, has been sentenced to serve over 11-13 years in prison, followed by 4 years of probation, on an assault and battery with a dangerous weapon charge.
Castro was found guilty of fatally stabbing 33-year-old Ronald Jamiel Reed and non-fatal stabbing of a second man.
During Friday’s sentencing, Reed’s sister provided a victim-impact statement.
“I didn’t just lose my older brother—I lost my best friend, my confidant.” Reed’s sister said. “He was the one who pushed me to chase my dreams when I was scared, the one who stepped in when I shut down, and the one who listened when all I needed was an ear.
Reed’s sister concluded her statement by asking the judge to sentence Castro to a maximum sentence, stating “I hope this time allows him to reflect and grow into a better person. Unlike my brother, he still has the chance to be a father, a grandfather, and a noble man.”
