Dorchester man charged with leading police on a pursuit with children in his car

PLAISTOW, N.H. — A Dorchester man was arrested and charged after police say he led them on a chase while his children were inside the car and live streamed the pursuit on the internet.

Authorities in Plaistow, New Hapmshire, say they were advised by Haverhill Police to be on the lookout for a blue Honda Odyssey after the male driver was seen throwing a woman from the car in Massachusetts and was being investigated.

At around noon on Thursday, a Rockingham County Sheriff’s deputy saw the suspect vehicle on Rt. 125 northbound in the area of Rt 107 South and tried stopping him. The driver refused to stop, leading police on a chase. Officials say the driver was live streaming the entire incident from inside his car.

Following the live stream, officers say the passengers in the car were in distress and in need of help. The pursuit continued on Rt. 101 East.

Stop sticks were used to stop the car, incapacitating one of the four tires.

The Odyssey got off Route 101 at exit 12 and struck another car, fleeing the scene of that accident. The pursuit continued at low speed into North Hampton.

Authorities eventually boxed in the car, but the driver rammed into a sheriff’s office cruiser and then hit a tree.

The suspect, 29-year-old Alpalus Slyman, of Dorchester, was taken into custody and booked at the Rockingham County Jail. The five children in the car, three girls and two boys ages one, two, five and 13-years-old and an 8-month-old were not injured and were cleared on the scene and reunited with their mother.

Slyman has been charged with three counts felony reckless conduct, conduct after an accident and, disobeying an officer. He is being held without bail and is set to be arraigned on Friday, June 12.
