ROCKINGHAM, VT — An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of a Boston delivery truck driver in Vermont more than two years ago. Vermont State Police say 49-year-old Jozsef Piri, of Naples, Florida, was arrested Thursday in the death of 44-year-old Roberto Fonseca-Rivera.

According to medical records, Piri is a licensed internist in Florida and Connecticut.

Fonseca-Rivera was found shot to death in a Katsiroubas Produce truck on Route 103 in Rockingham, Vermont. Fonseca-Rivera worked for the family-owned company in Hyde Park, Massachusetts.

Police said the men didn’t know each other, but a motive remains unclear.

“We are pleased that a suspect has been identified two years after the horrific killing of Roberto, a good man just doing his job driving down the highway in Rockingham, VT. We are gratified that Vermont State Police stayed on this difficult investigation. We hope that justice may be done for Roberto and that it may bring his family some peace,” read a statement from Ted Katsiroubas, CEO of Katsiroubas Produce Co.

Police said Piri was living in Connecticut and returning home from his Londonderry, Vermont property when he was driving in front of Fonseca-Rivera just before the shooting.

“To imagine a health care provider is involved in this,” said Violine Michel, Fonseca-Rivera’s neighbor. “I’m totally baffled. I would have never imagined.”

Michel told Boston 25 News she remembers Fonseca-Rivera as a hardworking father who was always kind to his neighbors.

“During the snow season, he would clean out our parking for us. He would go above and beyond,” Michel said. “It was a big loss.”

Piri was arrested outside a Publix Supermarket in Naples on Thursday. The 49-year-old doctor is scheduled to appear in court for the first time on Friday afternoon in Naples.
