The driver of a tractor-trailer who led police on a chase on a Massachusetts highway Thursday afternoon was first involved in a crash at a Canton business, the owner told Boston 25 News.
Dan McKeeney, the owner of Bosco Crane Co., told Boston 25 News the tractor-trailer struck a forklift as the driver zipped through the property. The man offered to pay cash for the 50-60,000 dollars in repairs before taking off in the tractor-trailer, according to McKeeney.
“As soon as we called the police and told him we were calling the police he took out of our yard, ran down the road,” McKeeney said. “We got in our car to try and chase him and I couldn’t keep up with him.”
Massachusetts State Police said they saw a tractor-trailer driving erratically on the University Avenue ramp to Interstate 95 north in Needham around 12:45 p.m., a department spokesperson told Boston 25.
When the driver failed to stop, state police started pursuing the vehicle and requested more cruisers, an Air Wing, and K9 Unit, an MSP spokesperson told Boston 25 News.
The tractor-trailer exited the highway near Exit 33 and crashed near the off-ramp in West Roxbury, state police say. The driver then bailed from the vehicle and ran off down Needham Street.
Mass. State Police said they were by police in Canton that the tractor-trailer had been involved in a crash at a business in town.
A Boston 25 News photographer found several Massachusetts State Cruisers and investigators on Needham Street near the Needham town line.
The tractor-trailer appeared to have been damaged in a crash. The front bumper was partially ripped off and the cabin of the vehicle was crunched.
Traffic on Needham Street was blocked off for hours before the tractor-trailer was finally towed away after 4:00 p.m.
