RANDOLPH, Mass. — A teenager was killed and three other people were injured in a violent crash in Randolph late Tuesday night, authorities announced Wednesday.
Officers responding to a report of a crash in the area of 701 North Main Street just before 10:30 p.m. found a 2011 Nissan Altima that had veered off the road and collided with a tree, according to Norfolk District Attorney Michael W. Morrissey.
Terry Boston, Jr., 15, of Brockton, was pronounced dead at the scene. His brother was flown to Boston Medical Center, where he remains in the ICU. Two other female passengers were taken by ambulance to local hospitals.
Rahshaun Burkes, who coached both brothers in their younger football years, described the boys as dedicated young men from a great family and with bright futures ahead.
“The two funniest kids you’ll ever meet,” Burkes told Boston 25 News. “They have great sense of humors. They’re just great kids all around.”
Burkes, who was more than a coach to the football stand-outs, became close with family. He grieved along with family at the hospital Wednesday.
“It’s heartbreaking. Their parents, they’re just such good people, and to see the hurt on their face and what they’re going through it’s just – I can’t even imagine what it’s like.”
While those close to the family said the older brother’s prognosis was not good Wednesday, authorities did not confirm an update on him.
A balloon release and candle lighting is planned for Saturday, July 22, at 7 p.m.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the vehicle was traveling south at the time of the crash.
Video captured by a Boston 25 photographer showed tire marks in the grass and bark sheered off the tree that was struck. Investigators were also seen photographing the crumpled car and collecting evidence from the roadway.
A homicide unit assigned to the DA’s office and Massachusetts State Police is assisting Randolph police with an investigation.
There have been no charges filed in connection with the crash.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
