Middleton man charged with stabbing wife and daughter

MIDDLETON, Mass. — Paul Salvaggio pleaded not guilty in Salem District Court Friday to charges related to a brutal case of alleged domestic violence.

Authorities allege Salvaggio, 54, stabbed his wife and daughter inside their home at 6 Stanley Rd. in Middleton Friday morning.

Police say they received a 911 call from Salvaggio’s wife at 6:11 a.m. Responding police say they found Salvaggio trying to drive away from the house in his SUV. When police approached, Salvaggio backed his SUV towards the garage, got out, and walked towards the house holding a large kitchen knife.

Police arrested Salvaggio at gunpoint after forcing him to the ground.

Salvaggio’s wife was found near the front door, naked, stabbed, covered in blood, and screaming that her daughter was upstairs, stabbed. The couple’s 13-year-old daughter was found in her bed, semi-conscious,with her face covered in blood. Police said she told officers she couldn’t breathe.

The mother and daughter were transported to Beverly Hospital.

In court, prosecutor Kate MacDougall told the court Salvaggio’s wife was stabbed while she was trying to protect her daughter from the attack.

Paul Salvaggio is charged with two counts of Armed Assault to Murder, Assault and Battery on a Child with Substantial Injury and Assault and Battery With a Dangerous Weapon Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury. He is ordered held without bail pending a Dangerousness Hearing on April 15.

The wife was treated and released from Beverly Hospital.

The 13-year-old daughter is at Boston Children’s Hospital, where she was listed Friday in critical but stable condition.
