DA investigating unattended death of 15-year-old patient at Pembroke Behavioral Hospital

PEMBROKE, Mass. — Authorities are investigating the unattended death of a 15-year-old patient at Pembroke Behavioral Hospital, according to Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy Cruz.

On July 22 Pembroke Police received a 911 call from the nursing staff at the behavioral healthcare facility reporting that a 15-year-old female patient was found unresponsive in their hospital room, according to Cruz.

The patient was transported to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth where she was pronounced dead.

According to the hospital’s website, they have an adolescent program that treats 13 to 17-year-olds struggling with a psychiatric disorder that requires 24-hour care. They say each patient receives an individualized treatment plan conducted by a psychiatrist, case manager, rehab therapist, and nurses overseeing recovery.

It remains unclear what program the 15-year-old girl was in.

The State Office of the Chief Medical Examiner took jurisdiction of the case and will determine the cause of death.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
