MALDEN, Mass. — Authorities on Wednesday identified a woman who was struck and killed by an SUV moments after she walked out of a Malden food pantry last week.

Officers responding to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian in the area of Main Street and Mountain Avenue on Oct. 19 found 63-year-old Mary McTaggart, of Malden, suffering from serious injuries, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Malden Police Chief Glenn Cronin.

McTaggart was rushed to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, Ryan and Cronin said.

A preliminary investigation indicated that a BMW SUV was traveling south on Main Street when it collided with an Immigration and Customs Enforcement SUV that was stopped at the traffic light. Officials said the BMW then veered off the roadway, struck two telephone poles, and ran into McTaggart.

The two ICE officers sitting in their federal agency vehicle were taken to the hospital. They were expected to be OK.

The driver of the BMW remained on scene. It’s not clear if they will face charges.

State police detectives assigned to the DA’s office are continuing to investigate the crash.

A gofundme has been established in memory of McTaggart.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
