DA identifies teenage moped driver killed in collision with dump truck in Dedham

DEDHAM, Mass. — A teenager driving a moped was killed Tuesday when he collided with a dump truck in Dedham, law enforcement officials said.

Authorities identify the teenager as Rakeem Akile Austin,17, of Dorchester.

Emergency crews responding to a report of a crash in the area of 21 Washington Street near the West Roxbury line around 11:15 a.m. found a moped that had collided with a commercial dump truck, according to the Norfolk District Attorney’s Office.

Austin died from his injuries at Faulkner Hospital.

One moped passenger was also hospitalized. There was no immediate word on the extent of their injuries.

The occupants of the dump truck remained on scene and were said to be cooperative with police.

State troopers assigned to the DA’s office are assisting Dedham police with an investigation.
