DA: Boston Police Officer died after being found outside Canton home during winter storm

Boston Police Officer John O'Keefe (Boston Police Department)

The death of a Boston police officer is under investigation after he was found early Saturday morning outside a home in Canton during the powerful winter storm, according to Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office.

BPD Superintendent-in-Chief Gregory Long announced the death of active-duty Boston Police Officer John, O’Keefe. He was a 16-year veteran of the department.

“John will be greatly missed by his friends and colleagues here at the Boston Police Department as we send our heartfelt condolences to his family, and loved ones during this difficult time,” Boston police said in a statement.

The DA’s office said the BPD officer appeared to have been in the cold for some period of time before he was found outside a home on Fairview Road. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The officer knew the people that lived inside the house where he was found dead, the DA’s office said.

The circumstances of his death are still under investigation, and an autopsy is expected to be completed Monday.
