‘Unimaginable’: 2 children found dead inside Duxbury home, woman and infant hospitalized, DA says

DUXBURY, Mass. — Two children are dead, and an infant and woman were rushed to the hospital, after they were found unconscious at a Duxbury home Tuesday night, according to Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz.

Police responded to 47 Summer Street around 6:15 p.m. after a man who arrived at the home called 911 to report the woman’s attempted suicide. Cruz said responders initially found a woman who appeared to have jumped out a window of the home.

Inside the home, police and firefighters found two children, a 5-year-old girl and a 3-year-old boy, with obvious signs of trauma. The children were taken to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.

An 8-month-old boy survived and was flown to the hospital. There was no immediate word on his condition. The mother also remains hospitalized.

According to a Mass General Hospital spokesperson, the mother is an employee.

“We are shocked and saddened to learn of this unthinkable tragedy. We extend our deepest sympathies to all those affected by these devastating events,” said MGH Senior Director of Communications in a statement.

Officials have not identified those involved in the incident, nor have they elaborated on the injuries suffered by the children who died.

Everyone involved in the incident appears to be related, according to Cruz. He called the incident “an unimaginable senseless tragedy” and noted that it didn’t happen randomly.

The medical examiner’s office is working to determine how the children died.

Officers who discovered the children have been taken off duty for the time being.

State troopers assigned to Cruz’s office are assisting Duxbury police with the investigation.
