DA: 1 of 2 vehicles that struck and killed man in Brockton crash left scene

BROCKTON, Mass. — Authorities in Massachusetts are searching for a vehicle that fled the scene of a fatal pedestrian crash in Brockton Tuesday night.

The crash happened at about 6 p.m. in the area of 690 North Quincy St., which is near the Brockton-Abington line.

The Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office said the victim, 70-year-old Leland Thompson, of Brockton, was transported to South Shore Hospital in Weymouth, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators said Thompson was attempting to cross the roadway when he was struck by a blue Buick Enclave. Boston 25 News crew captured video of that vehicle stopped at the scene, and the SUV had damage to the windshield and hood on the front passenger’s side.

According to investigators, the driver of the Buick immediately stopped his vehicle and was making attempts to stop traffic when a white Jeep Wrangler appeared to make contact with the lower portion of Thompson’s body.

Authorities said the white Jeep Wrangler did not stop after striking Thompson, and that investigators are looking to identify the vehicle and its driver.

This is an active investigation.
