BOSTON — More than 1,000 athletes showed off their skills in the Special Olympics Massachusetts summer games.
The annual event was held at Harvard Stadium Saturday for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic. Athletes took part in a number of competitions, including track and field, power lifting, swimming and tennis.
One of the highlights of the event was the Law Enforcement Torch Run Cruiser Convoy.
Officers from across Massachusetts arrived at Harvard Stadium to help show support fo the Special Olympics. Police departments were asked to donate $100 per participating cruiser, with funds going directly to the athletes.
This year’s Convoy netted $17,518 and included officers from the Berkshires to Provincetown, and the North Shore to New Bedford.
The Torch Run was founded in 1981 in Kansas.
