Crews battle strong winds, heavy flames during Falmouth condo fire

Falmouth condo fire (Falmouth Fire Department)

FALMOUTH, Mass. — Blustery conditions on Thursday made a stubborn fire in Falmouth more difficult for responding companies.

Fire officials say they were alerted to visible smoke and flames at the Briarwood Condominiums on Pine Valley Drive around 9:51 a.m.

Arriving crews saw flames shooting through a second-floor window but were reportedly told by bystanders the unit was unoccupied.

According to authorities, due to the challenging location of the condo behind another building, firefighters had to battle the bulk of the blaze from outside.

A second alarm was issued because of the heavy flames and strong winds.

The fire spread to two neighboring units, but was extinguished just before 11 a.m., according to Falmouth fire officials.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Falmouth Fire Rescue Fire Investigation Unit and the Massachusetts State Police-Fire and Explosion Unit.

Firefighters from Bourne, Joint Base Cape Cod, Sandwich, Mashpee, Cotuit, Centerville Osterville, and Marston Mills all provided mutual aid to the scene and town-wide coverage.
