BOSTON — A firefighter was injured and thirteen residents were displaced after a raging blaze tore through a triple-decker home and spread to another home in Boston on Monday morning.
Crews responding to a report of a fire burning in the rear of a three-family home at 52 Woodson Street in the city’s Mattapan section found flames that were extending to an adjacent building at 56 Woodson Street, according to the Boston Fire Department.
The blaze ripped through the rear porches of the triple-decker and across the roof as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, Deputy Fire Chief Brian Tully said.
Firefighters were able to prevent the fire from extending to a third building, but the extreme heat did melt the siding at 20 Sutton Street.
Tully said that one firefighter was transported from the scene with minor injuries.
A total of six adults and seven children were displaced from 56 Woolson Street. The Red Cross is assisting them.
Daylight photos showed heavy charring to the buildings and Tully estimated hundreds of thousands of dollars in damage.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
