BOSTON — A couple tied the knot on a beach in Boston on New Year’s Day and promptly raced into the frigid water as the L Street Brownies took part in their annual polar plunge.
Matthew McConnell, dressed in a gray suit, exchanged vows with Christina Nardone, dressed in a white wedding gown, on M Street Beach. The couple then linked arms and splashed into Dorchester Bay, braving the cold on the first morning of 2025.
Video captured by a Boston 25 News photographer showed the couple embracing fondly in the water as others took the plunge around them.
“We took the plunge in more ways than one,” McConnell told Boston 25. “If you can get through this, you can get through anything.”
Before the plunge, the Brownies sold shirts at L Street Tavern to benefit local nonprofit organizations.
The L Street Brownies are a historic “polar bear club” based in South Boston. It was organized in 1902.
