COHASSET, Mass. — You could say this call will be from outer space.
Cohasset native and NASA astronaut Stephen Bowen is slated to speak with public school students from the International Space Station on Wednesday, school and town officials said.
Bowen launched to the International Space Station as Commander of NASA’s SpaceX Crew-6 mission aboard a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft on March 2.
The live event, planned for 2 p.m. on Wednesday, will be streamed for all students to watch. For public viewing, the event will be live streamed on the Cohasset Live Streaming Facebook page, which can be accessed by clicking here or by typing in facebook.com/cohassetlivestreaming.
Bowen, retired U.S. Navy captain, is the first submarine officer to be selected as an astronaut by NASA.
Since becoming an astronaut, Bowen has flown on STS-126, STS-132 and STS-133 missions.
To date, he’s clocked more than 40 days in space, including 47 hours and 18 minutes in seven spacewalks.
Bowen was born in Cohasset in 1964, and he graduated from Cohasset High School in 1982.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
