SAGAMORE, Mass. — Christmas Tree Shops will move forward with closing 10 of its stores, including two popular Massachusetts locations, after filing for bankruptcy last week.
The Middleboro-based chain of discounted home decor stores will shutter its iconic Sagamore location, as well as its Falmouth store, according to bankruptcy filings.
The chain’s Sagamore location is known for its large windmill that’s visible to drivers as they pass across the Sagamore Bridge.
On Friday, Christmas Tree Shops announced that it had hired a Boston-based law firm to prepare its official Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
The other eight locations that Christmas Tree Shops plan to close include stores in New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Florida, Michigan, and Georgia.
The 10 mentioned stories are slated to shut their doors by the end of June.
Christmas Tree Shops currently has over 80 locations in 20 states. The first store location was opened in 1970 in Yarmouth Port.
