Child suffers serious burns in explosion outside Stoneham home

STONEHAM, Mass. — A young teenage boy suffered serious burns Tuesday night after an explosion outside a home in Stoneham, officials said.

Stoneham Police and Fire responded to a home on Pine Street just after 8:30 p.m. for a 911 call reporting an explosion in the area.

Upon arrival, crews located a 14-year-old boy who had sustained serious burn injuries.

The boy was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital for treatment.

The fire was out when first responders arrived, however, investigators found a burned yellow fuel container nearby.

The cause of the blast remains under investigation.
