CHELSEA, Mass. — As a 17-year-old female faces a first-degree murder charge after the stabbing death of 19-year-old Cyndell Rodriguez in Chelsea, police said they’re still looking for a person of interest who discharged several rounds of ammunition at the crime scene.
That person being sought by police walked away from the scene on Garfield Avenue on Thursday night, the same area where Rodriguez was stabbed and killed, police said. Investigators did not provide a description of the suspect.
The fatal stabbing occurred in the area of 50 Garfield Ave. in Chelsea at around 9:10 p.m. on Thursday night, Aug. 19.
The 17-year-old facing charges, who is a juvenile, was not identified and is set to be arraigned in Chelsea District Court on Monday.
Investigators said that on Thursday night, the juvenile was “involved in a physical altercation” in front of 50 Garfield Ave. in Chelsea with the victim, Cyndell Rodriguez.
The juvenile was armed with a knife “which she used to stab Rodriguez causing the fatal injuries,” police said in a statement.
Police said the homicide investigation remains active and ongoing.
