A school resource officer has been placed on leave in Brockton after a video shows him kneeling on a student who was involved in a fight.
His conduct in the video is being described as a “great concern” The video shows a student being handcuffed and restrained after a fight broke out at the school. The resource officer’s knee is on the student’s neck.
Superintendent Michael Thomas said to parents, “The video was painful to watch - particularly given its historical context.”
Boston 25 News has been reporting on incidents of violence at high schools across the Commonwealth.
Brockton High School is no exception - they’ve seen a surge in violence among students.
Last month, our cameras were there as students waited in long lines to get through metal detectors, which were added to increase safety.
Brockton Police say they are reviewing all videos and surveillance footage of this latest incident to determine whether the officer followed protocols.
Extra staff will be on hand Thursday for any student who would like to speak about the video.
