Brockton Hospital opens two urgent care centers, plans to re-open three months after fire

BROCKTON, Mass — As cleanup crews continue to repair Brockton Hospital after February 7′s roaring electrical fire, the hospital’s owners are working to ease the burden placed on surrounding healthcare practices.

Two new urgent care centers will serve the City of Champions over the next two weeks, Signature Healthcare said in a statement Thursday. The first urgent care will be located at 110 Liberty Street in Brockton and will be open seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The second urgent care center will be located at 650 Centre Street in Brockton.

Signature Healthcare also stated they plan to re-open Brockton Hospital for limited inpatient services in approximately three months. Additional hospital services will be phased in after the initial partial re-opening.

The nine-alarm transformer fire didn’t just gut Brockton Hospital, it put a strain on hospitals throughout the area south of Boston.

Medical beds have become a scarcity as patients that would typically travel to Brockton Hospital are routed elsewhere.

“This is impacting not only the town of Sharon, but all of Norfolk County, part of Bristol County of course and Plymouth, so it’s a big area that’s affected,” said Sharon Fire Department Deputy Chief Michael Madden told Boston 25.

“Signature Healthcare owes tremendous gratitude to our state and local officials, government agencies, regional healthcare organizations and affiliates for their unwavering support of these goals. We are immensely appreciative of our staff and the help of our community partners in our shared goal of safely re-opening Brockton Hospital services,” the Healthcare company said in Thursday’s statement.
