Brockton Hospital hopes to fully reopen by end of year

BROCKTON, Mass — Brockton Hospital will take a bit longer to reopen than planned.

Although the hospital says it still intends to reopen before the end of the year, the timeline has been extended due to the extensive work required to restore the building.

Hospital officials say February’s fire did a lot of damage to their systems.

Signature Healthcare stated in February they plan to re-open the hospital for limited inpatient services in approximately three months.

The hospital is currently in its second of three phases needed to reopen, centered around restoring as many services as possible.

“Our overarching goal is and will continue to be; meeting the needs of our community, retaining our staff and remaining financially viable as a Safety Net Healthcare System,” said hospital officials in a statement.

Outpatient surgical services are still being offered by the hospital while crews rebuild.

The third and final phase of the recovery phase will include restoring Brockton Hospital’s patient services to the community. The timeline is contingent upon supply chain and regulatory approvals.

The nine-alarm fire on February 7 forced hundreds of patients to pour out of the building.

Sick and injured patients were prioritized and quickly led out to safety for transport to other local hospitals but patients of all ages, including infants, were seen being carried and stretchered out of the building.
