Brockton firefighter dies after suffering cardiac arrest while on the call

BROCKTON, Mass. — A Brockton firefighter has died after suffering cardiac arrest while on the call.

On Sunday, Brockton Fire Chief Brian Nardelli announced the passing of Firefighter Jeffrey Albanese.

Albanese suffered a cardiac arrest on December 9 while on the job responding to an incident. Firefighter Albanese was resuscitated by his fellow firefighters, Brewsters EMS, and medical staff at Signature Brockton Hospital.

Albanese was transferred to Beth Israel Deaconess in Boston, where he received incredible care, according to the department.

Albanese died just after 11 p.m. on Saturday, December 21.

“Firefighter Albanese fought a courageous battle with his family and brother and sister firefighters by his side,” Nardelli said in a statement. “Please keep the Albanese family and Brockton Firefighters Local 144 in your thoughts and prayers.”

Albanese joined the department on September. 11, 2000, and served on Squad A, Ladder Company 1, and as senior man of Engine Company 4.

The department said that funeral arrangements will be announced.
