Police arrest man for alleged possession of high-powered rifle in Fall River

FALL RIVER, Mass. — Officers discovered several guns, including a high-powered rifle, in a Fall River man’s house and car after executing a search warrant, according to authorities.

33-year-old Jonathan Spears is charged with multiple violations of Massachusetts gun laws, including two counts of possession of a large capacity firearm, three counts of possession of a large capacity feeding device, and two counts of possession of ammunition with no FID/LTC.

Fall River Police say during a follow-up investigation to an incident on Sunday in the 200 block of Ames Street, Detective Christopher Teves applied for and executed a search warrant on a residence and vehicle, along with members of the Community Action & Suppression Team.

According to officials, a .308 AR10 rifle was seized from the home and a Glock 19 was seized from the center console of the car.

Spears was taken into custody and will be arraigned.

“The success of this investigation was the result of exceptional teamwork and collaboration between two divisions, highlighting their dedication to achieving a common goal,” Fall River Police wrote in a social media post.
