ACUSHNET, Mass. — Authorities identified the two people killed in a house fire on Christmas morning.

According to the State Fire Marshal, 89-year-old Leo Lyonnais and 87-year-old Annette Lyonnais died following a fire on Garfield Street around 2 a.m.

Investigators say the front left corner of the first floor is where the flames originated. After de-layering the area, crews found a wood stove and a wall outlet with a multi-pronged adapter plugged in.

Officials say either of those factors could have contributed to the blaze, but the exact cause of the fire will remain undetermined but not suspicious.

“All of us here at the Acushnet Fire Department again want to offer our condolences to the Lyonnais family,” said Chief Thomas Farland.

State Fire Marshal Jon Davine says electrical and heating fires are among the most common types of residential fires in Massachusetts, accounting for 541 house fires last year.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
