BOSTON — A Braintree man has been arrested for sex trafficking in Boston, police said Tuesday.
Sacharis Gathers, 20, is charged with trafficking for sexual servitude, deriving support from prostitution, possession of Class B (crack cocaine) and an outstanding straight warrant for violations of auto laws, police said. He is expected to be arraigned in South Boston District Court on Tuesday.
On Monday, members of the Boston Police Human Trafficking Unit working with the Massachusetts State Police High-Risk Victims Unit were investigating sexual exploitation of victims in the areas of Massachusetts Avenue and Melnea Cass Boulevard.
Detectives saw an online advertisement for a victim that they were aware was sexually exploited and a victim of violent assaults, police said. Detectives called the phone number and made arrangements for a meetup.
At about 8:18 p.m., detectives saw a motor vehicle park at 69 Boston St. Detectives saw that the front seat passenger was the known victim. The victim got out of the vehicle and entered the location.
Detectives then arrested Gathers and placed him into handcuffs, police said.
Police also seized a plastic bag of crack cocaine and a glass jar containing two more plastic bags of crack cocaine.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates as more information becomes available.
